READING LOOKUP
Blood pressure readings, explained
Pick your top number to see every reading that starts with it: the category, pulse pressure and mean arterial pressure (MAP). When the two numbers land in different categories, the higher one counts.
80 to 89: Under 90 systolic
90 to 119: Normal (with a bottom number under 80)
120 to 129: Elevated (with a bottom number under 80)
130 to 139: Stage 1 hypertension
140 to 180: Stage 2 hypertension
181 to 200: Severe (above 180)
Reading a reading
The top number (systolic) is the pressure while your heart beats. The bottom number (diastolic) is the pressure between beats. The category chart guide explains each range, and the category checker places any single reading on the chart.
Track this automatically with BP Log.
The free iPhone app times two readings a minute apart, averages them, keeps your morning and evening numbers apart, and builds a report for your doctor.
